Re: BigSur and Oolite

If we can create the infrastructure to have scenarios repeated and verified in an automated fashion, some of them can be created for Oolite itself and then for extensions wherever need be. Over time these could act as regression tests. And since Oolite and the OXPs run on different platforms, the w...

Re: BigSur and Oolite

This sounds like heavy lifting. However if that piece of work were written down onto a roadmap, with enough hints what to look for and a way to verify successful operation I think it could be done by people interested and having knowledge in JavaScript and Objective-C integration but no need to und...

Re: Quote of the week!

I think you have the wrong targets for concern, BigPharma loves this stuff, who do you think is selling it? Just like homeopathy etc, look behind the label and you see its our old friends raking in the cash. FWIW its the same with renewable energy, its largely run by Big Oil but lots of nice green l...

Re: Oolite Multiplayer? Please read

It would, I think, be relatively easy to have each world gradually replenish its export goods and have the level drop semi randomly when a ship launches, perhaps even assigning the npc the cargo it just bought. Maybe even tie this in with shuttles bringing the goods up from the surface. I dont see h...

Unless you are planning to learn javascript, you can just accept that "well written javascript generaly has use strict at the top". It is more or less a signal to the javascript system that the javascript contained has to be valid. The commodities info is detailed here: http://wiki.alioth....

FROOMB! is from a 1960s novel
ELE is from a 1990s film
UNEXA is from a long series of juvenile novels published over a span of more than 20 years.
If I remember ELE is from on of the astroid diaster movies (maybe called asteroid?) and it was something like Estinguising Life Event.

Re: Government Types (anarchy/corporate state etc)

Every member nation of the UN knows that North Korea is a grotesque military dictatorship under a vague gloss of communist rhetoric - but the label on their seat still says "Democratic People's Republic of North Korea". I think you are confusing country name and political system. The labe...

Re: Oolite Multiplayer? Please read

I don't know if anyone said it yet (I don't have time to look at 14 pages of posts) but how about LAN multiplayer? I think is should be easier to make, one player can be the server and the other the client, coding coding, blah blah blah, Done! LAN network game! I think the easiest would be to someh...

Re: Plasma Cannons

Any chance of some verification or correction by those who know? ... And are these only twins? What exactly is your question? I believe there are at least 2 things named plasma cannon in the game. One is the turret, which is a single rather than double and does more or less what you would expect ro...

Re: Units of Measurement

The km labels for waypoints and reticle targets are unfortunately hardcoded. You cannot change then with an OXP. Ah, the km, pronounced koom (kuː ʊm) of course! An ancient unit the origins of which are long since lost. Legends tell of prehistoric origins, early scientists trying to express distance...

*What is that first game screen called? The "Main menu" In the source code, they are refered to as demo ships and it is described as demo screen. See Universe.m FWIW there is also (internally) a ship registry which is the set of installed ships. In the code itself shiplibrary as far as I ...

Re: The Libraries mess

Imnot 100% sure what exactly you are getting at, but I think we may be confusing different meanings of library. A ships library is a piece of ingame stuff, a room or shelf of books that you can entertain yourself with on the long and lonely travels in the spacelanes. A Library in the technical sense...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

1938 is before 1950, so it also doesnt count. To be honest I spent a few hours last night looking online for radio sci fi and trying to find some that has been made into cinema and its very limited. There was a bit of scifi radio before 1950 (war of the worlds is probably the best known radio scifi)...
