DST (BST)

Post by Cody »

Once again, DST is with us! One hundred bloody years of it now! I hate it - all discombobulated, I am!
If the Sun is on the meridian, it should be twelve o'clock, not one o'clock! Time it was scrapped!

DST serves one very important social function: sorting rational people from authoritarian, conformist, mindless people who will tolerate any nonsense.

Not being a morning person, I find DST preferable - light until much later in the evening.

Same with me, but I could live with DST in winter too. Not DST is the problem, the changing is the problem. It makes people sick, and it causes more accidents.

The meridian thing is not so important, you just have to get used to it. Look at Spain and France for example - they should use GMT, like Portugal, but they use CET. In China there is only one time zone, although there could be four or even five (this is probably more sensible than four time zones in Australia, where three would be "correct"...).

You could say, "If only Sydneysiders were as smart as Queenslanders, and resisted the DST nonsense too."

If the map in Wikipedia is correct, the most strange time zone is in the south-east corner of West Australia. It looks like there is not much more than one village in this area...

I now declare my house to be GMT+0:45! :D

My friend John adjusts his bed time over the week before the change to help him cope. This year he got it the wrong way round

Heh.. I maintain that SE Queensland is so far east of Sydney that it should have its own timezone..
