Yup, I can hear you.
In most of the games, I'm trying to group my main functions on the "half-left" of the keyboard (i.e. not further than G key), in order to leave the right hand available for aiming (mouse, or arrow keys). Usually this can be done by using the modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift) together with the letters.
I'm really surprised why a multi-button controller (like most of the joysticks nowadays) doesn't come with such a setup (or at least "the apps" that use them).
EDIT (I realized I didn't clarify enough my "complain", above):
By "such a setup" for the joysticks I meant the capability to designate 1 or 2 of the buttons as modifiers, and thus be used only in combinations with the others. This way, an (e.g.) 6 button/functions joystick can become (with 1 modifier button) a 10 functions joystick (and yes, with 2 would have 16 functions available). Hah, 16 functions should be enough for everyone (right? similarly with 640K RAM
Also, it would be great having the joystick drive (at least some part of) the GUI
