UPDATE: I'm changing this first post to clarify where this journey went.

There is now a backup server for http://wiki.alioth.net. It is located at http://wiki.maikschulz.de. This is an "official" backup with support from Winston, who also gave me the keys to his wiki installation to take care of it. This includes upgrading the MediaWiki software and installing extensions.

The backup is performed automatically every day at 5am CET. It takes around 10 minutes and performs an rsync of the MediaWiki installation, a full dump of the MySQL DB except the "text" and "object cache" tables, and an incremental dump of the "text" table. The only difference between the main server and my backup is that I set my backup to read-only mode. When you want to edit a page on the backup server you will see a message that informs you accordingly and your changes cannot be saved. This is to make sure that no one accidentally changes wiki pages there.

Winston also made Ahruman and myself Bureaucrats on the wiki. This means we can change privileges of other wiki users, e.g. to make new Administrators.

Last not least I changed the [wiki]Main Page[/wiki] of the wiki to tell new users to contact me here via PM for an account. In fact, any administrator can create user accounts. It would be good if the other admins would add themselves on the main page while they are frequenting the BB and remove themselves e.g. when they go on vacation and won't have connectivity.

cim continues to have shell access to my server.

In order to test e.g. the MediaWiki version upgrade or extensions, I also setup a separate copy of the wiki at http://sandbox.maikschulz.de. It is not regularly updated from the main server but has a snapshot of the wiki from a few weeks ago. Still, enough to function as a testbed.

First users are created and active, thanks, guys, for taking the time to edit both wikis to keep them in sync for the time being!

I'm getting "Oops! Google Chrome could not find maik.schulz.de" on this link: http://maik.schulz.de/wiki/YAHMobile_OXP

Some of the tabs link to http://maikschulz.de/mediawiki/... pages rather than http://maikschulz.de/wiki/... pages. This includes the search button.

From these .../mediawiki/... pages one can get to what appears to be a mirror of some of the .../wiki/... pages, but with different rights set up on them.

For example:

http://maikschulz.de/mediawiki/index.ph ... ction=edit
http://maikschulz.de/wiki/index.php?tit ... ction=edit

I'm not saying it is wrong, it just seems odd.

When it comes to decommissioning http://wiki.alioth.net/ it needs to be borne in mind that there a number of files hosted on there which are pointed to by the new wiki such as:

G-HUD Mk2 http://wiki.alioth.net/images/2/2d/G-HUD_Mk2.oxp.zip
Trek HUD http://wiki.alioth.net/images/d/d9/TrekHud.zip
Wolfwood's Variants http://wiki.alioth.net/images/0/06/Wolfs_variants.zip
Oolite Reference Sheet http://wiki.alioth.net/images/d/df/OoliteRS_rev1.8.zip

there are others.

Don't know how that extra dot slipped in there, it should be maikschulz.de

It is wrong, I'll look into it later tonight. Thanks for letting me know!

Yes, important point. I actually have all of the non-image files from the wiki as well. I just don't think they belong into a wiki, so I propose I put them up on the box and, as backup, also provide the link to the old wiki (which will probably not be decommissioned as a whole, it is the Elite Wiki after all, while mine only covers Oolite).

Is the search working correctly? It works fine for most things, but if I enter certain planet names, it finds nothing.

I haven't tested search at all yet. Can you please post examples that work and examples that don't work?

Simple example: on the Alioth wiki main page, I put Zaquesso into the search and I get its planet list details.
On the new Oolite wiki main page, it returns "There were no results matching the query"!
Names like Lave (and other well-known planets) work, as there other entries concerning OXPs etc.

Mediawiki manual suggests http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Re ... tindex.php or http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Rebuildall.php need to be run after a data import to make sure indexing is correct afterwards.

Haven't done that. I'm traveling at the moment, could you do it?

OK, now you actually can do it, after I granted appropriate privileges to the DB user ;-) Of course, to test it I had to do it myself :D

Result: The search index is updated, you can now find pages that contain, e.g., "Zaquesso".
