If I hadn't drawn a pragmatic line under Lazarus - that's where it was headed - still it got to circa 20K words - 1/4 to 1/5th of an acceptable novel length.
I should read that one next is it available in P.D.F or txt. If only txt do you know of a free program to convert to P.D.F ?

Open Office is probably the easiest way to convert to PDF for free.

Note: Make sure you use the latest version of Oo when you export as a pdf, I discovered when I was pdf'ing Lazarus on Oo 2.3 non of the quotation marks got converted, but it converted fine in Oo 3.1

One other oddity in the latest pdf using Open Office 3.1 (under Vista) is my font of choice (Deja Vu Sans) does appear to have a bold AND Italic - the text disappears! I could have bold or italics but not bold and Italics, haven't tried it with other fonts, so it might just be a particular oddity...

However, I really like Open Office - on my Vista machine (awaiting upgrade to W7) I didn't even put M$ Office on this time even though work has an Enterprise license for it!

Just a quick question! This thread hasn't been used since 2009, is there a point to it remaining a sticky?

Since it represents the first real proper fullblown Oolite fiction - I think it probably deserves its place - new BB members will still see it, even if they don't post.

Besides - it was posted to this morning...

So to bring it up to date with Finnis would be a very good thing to do then. :D

And "Incurisio" - I'm sure Drew can do that when he's back online. (then it would (continue to) be worthy of its sticky)

"Finnis" and "Incurisio"? — A strange couple...

Status Quo was great!
The battle scenes were the highlight for me, really well written action.
Reading Alien Items atm (some folks around here have got mad writing skills) and then Mutabilis is next.

Really glad these works exist, sometimes you can't play but you still want to be in the Ooniverse, these books make that possible.
Plus it's nice to read about other characters doing things in the same universe, it makes the game world seem more real and independent of the player (something this game is very good at).

Good stuff. :D

Drew has a special knack for fight scenes - it's a gift given they can be potentially a random selection from "up, down, weave, dodge, left, roll, right..."

<howls in anguish> Ain't that the truth - space combat scenes are something I cannot write at all well - I'm trying to avoid them now (as much as is possible)!

It's tempting to write a ship to ship combat thus:

"The two ships approached other under full power, each desperately trying to draw a vector that would give it the first, potentially killer blow [insert imagination here - the good guy wins]..."
