Thanks for all the responses! First off I'm not trying to minimize Oolite, it's a fantastic achievement based on an equally fantastic original. @Commander McLane I basically agree with you, except to say that as it stands today, I think that aside from any minor bugs, it would be fair to classify Oo...

Oolite Development and Beyond

What are the goals of the Oolite development team these days? I assume that it's mainly just to fix bugs and add minor features. The game as it stands seems to meet it's original goals. From that perspective there doesn't seem to be a lot more that needs to be done. Of course, that doesn't mean that...

I have run 1.65 on an iMac G4 1.25Ghz with 512MB (damn you have me beat!) I think the graphics card is a 64MB Nvidia FX 5200 off the top of my head. Haven't tried 1.74 on it. I'll have to take it for a spin! (if it even works) On a side note, I'm primarily a Windows user but I've been getting pretty...

Most of the specs I see for that card list it with either 256 or 512MB VRAM ... So, yes, you're going to have some memory issues if those specs match your card ... Seriously? Assassin's Creed 2 recommends only a 512MB graphics card and will allegedly run on a 256MB card. Sounds like the textures ne...

Just to clarify, I'm not pointing the finger at anybody in particular, I just feel a little bit for Vaztr. The intentions were honorable, the execution might have been cleaner, but there was little communication from other corners of the forum so what is to be done. I think we should all just hug it...

In Vaztr's defense, the intention was already discussed in this thread and nobody batted an eye. I can see why Vaztr might be feeling a little ambushed after all the effort that has been put in. There are lots of mixed messages here and it's easy to see why there would be confusion and some hard fee...

It sounds like you're using an integrated graphics chipset. Those are notoriously feeble when compared with using an add-on graphics card. There are a couple of possibilities: 1. Your graphics chipset is simply old and/or incapable of fully supporting some graphics capabilities (particularly 3D feat...

It's my understanding that a gamma ray burst in the (Earth's) face is right up there with with a blackhole come a-waltzing through the solar system, in terms of "OMG, we're going to die" moments. It fascinates me that we talk about the raw power of mother nature and some of the incredible forces we ...

We're all gonna die!

Coming to a solar system near you, sometime in 2012:
Massive gamma ray bubbles discovered milky-way

OMG, we're all gonna die!

I reckon there's a Hollywood disaster movie in the making there. :)[/url]

One thing I hadn't considered up until recently (because it was mentioned on the forums) is that as long as you ship points in the right direction, no ship can ever get away because when it gets out of range you simple jump drive after it. It'll run out of fuel eventually (while you'll still have yo...
