You have to be careful not overshoot if you were planning to visit that salvage gang / rock hermit / pirate cove though. I can suggest nerfing those ships down a bit. Their dual weapons are on subents; replace the WEAPON_MILUITARY_LASER on the subents with WEAPON_BEAM_LASER or WEAPON_PULSE_LASER.
The ships will still be pains in the butt, yet considerably less uber.

Sounds like the assassins are trying to do it ninja style. They only thing they're missing to be seriously ninja are cloaking devices. Which, we should count ourselves lucky that's above their pay grade.

I have no special mission oxps, and the only ship oxps I' using are Griff's ships for 1.8. I'm fairly sure Griff didn't set any custom scanner ranges.

I recently flew with a viper squad to be sure. NPCs are definitely seeing each other on radar a few km further than I do.

I learned it was far more practical to aim carefully, and fire my weapon with quick pulls of the trigger; as opposed to holding the trigger down in a spray n' pray method. Back to the issue of multiple fore weapons... Multi fore lasers for npcs have been supported in the core since forever, but only as subents armed with lasers. The core ships don't have this of course, but oxp npcs could have as many as you could find room on the model for the subents. Caveat: Never ...
