While trade's out as a means of directly manipulating a planet's economy, could the same basic effect be created through the use of scripts and the planetinfo plist? Say you have a mission to deliver x (could be a person or a package) to a corporate state: on completion of the mission a script turns...

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of variation on precious metal prices, at least not at normal space stations. They can be bought relatively cheaply from rock hermits but even then the potential profit is only likely to be a few tens of credits per unit. The best way to make money with t...

Make sure you also get a copy of the galactic star chart (press shift+1 on the galactic map screen) to help plan your route. Jumps that appear possible at first glance can turn out to be just over the 7ly limit and can be a real pain to get to.

Hmm, I might have to give passengers another go if they're giving out tips. Usually I only take them on if they happen to be going my way, and even then I do tend to get sidetracked by other events and only just make the deadline. I'll have to try fitting out a smaller, faster ship with a load of pa...

The margins don't look good - at first. But that's because you don't have a reputation. After a few successful deliveries of medium-value goods you'll be offered contracts on things like gold and gemstones (as well as bulk orders of firearms and narcotics). The premiums vary depending on distance bu...

Re: The 7LY limit

But the 7LY limit IS still there! Only you save the go-to-station/ refuel bit! And as I state, it could be allowed just for the higher ranks, or certain ships/ missions. In fact, we need to have some sort of space lane between the witchpoint and the sun as well - currently that is the fastest way t...

The limit has an even greater impact if you happen fail a cargo delivery contract. Suddenly you're left with hundreds or even thousands of units to shift without a buyer in place, so you're forced to offload it in small chunks on the open market. For valuable stuff like gems and precious metals, thi...

Piracy's definitely the way to go to get more cash, plus it keeps your combat rating ticking over nicely. A successful pirate run could bring in as much as 30t of stolen goods (even more if it's a really busy system) so if I'm in a big ship I make sure to buy up some profitable cargo before setting ...

I think Arexack has the answer there. Create some abnormally powerful bounty hunter craft and spawn them according to legal status, kills and government type - I would have through hunters would steer clear of stable systems when plying their trade as there's too many police around. In the longer te...

Plasma cannons are definitely good for laying down a general field of fire - maybe even taking out missiles rapidly approaching from behind. Kind of reminds me of the 'Schrage Musik' cannon used by German night fighters in WWII - a set of upward-firing guns activated by radar and used to take out bo...

I agree there need to be reasonable trade-offs. In FE2/FFE of course you had the size of the equipment to consider, so unless you were cheating you couldn't expect to cram multiple shields and heavy lasers into a small fighter. I see in the notes for the 6.1 test release that the pitch and roll vari...

The question is, do you go on to destroy your victim even when they've dumped their cargo for you, just to get hold of the extra 30c worth of gold they had stashed away for emergencies? I know I do! Occasionally the cargo hoovering approach can go wrong when the victim tries evasive action at the sa...

Energy management features would indeed be interesting, though I don't know how difficult it would be to implement - I suppose you could draw on some of the functionality of the ECM. It's been mentioned before, but I do like the idea of the laser cooling booster which draws heavily on your shields a...
