Re: JB WIP thread: several ships

ok maybe that was the wrong name for the ship, since back a few posts i did have a new model for the bulk hauler discussed in tony's post which is the long range cruiser.

the bulk hauler i was talking about is this one http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Bulk_Hauler

Re: JB WIP thread: several ships

that is the reimagined bulk hauler. I tried to stick to the original design but the slanted bulkhead under the dock kind of bothered me a bit so i just extended the structure.

Re: JB WIP thread: several ships

OK, i know i have had a model showcase hiatus lately, but since i have gotten a few more built that i did not have time to show, here are a few pics of some heavy haulers, some of which were in the later elite games, but would be a nice addition to OOlite for some variation. http://s8.postimg.org/9e...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

that sounds really interesting. I was also thinking my first ship, the scorpion AV would be a good test bed for proof of concept for blowing stuff off and damage decals/model parts. might play around with the modeling part of that today if i find time.

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

I think that is why most big production games tend to compartmentalize their dev team, and yeah scripting is the same for me, so i have a steep learning curve.

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

Actually i was talking more about the model LOD, but texture LOD is also paired with that in most cases. Just not sure to what extent OOlite can use these features.

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

Blender is really cool as far as texturing goes. Not only can you mark logical seams yourself by selecting the edges you want as seams (good for obj/material conversion) but you can also use a plugin called smart UV project that automatically breaks the faces into sections that can easily be texture...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

i figured there would be limitations like the ones mentioned, and i examined griffs griffin noting the possible connection back a while, cool to know it is possible. I wonder if breaking the hull up into sections could get it to behave closer to some of the racing games that show damage to a car? If...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

I think you covered all the bases, thanks for clarifying things. I will peek into the orchestral demo instead of the others, since i had not looked there yet. And i am glad griff has a good set of resources to reference. I just downloaded his OBJ format models the other day and noticed he has a lot ...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

Actually i found that OOlite was a real breeze to install using the tar.gz method, which was a relief compared to other linux games that often times are not as well planned out. So kudos for including those libraries that work in their own segregated install, that is how it should be done. Now to ge...

Re: Traffic Redistributer

That could be on my radar. I was looking over the FFE shiplist the other night and there are a lot of those ships that i would be interested in making new models for. I think i remember seeing an OOlite spider or panther somewhere, but cant remember off hand, but if those deserve a re-do, i might be...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

it did not say which one, but i assume it was the shadered package. It used to be installed before the upgrade to the new version, but now it will not install no matter what method is used. I only install shader versions. That is why i was wondering about a bug in the plist files or something that w...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

I'm sure there has to be scripting involved for most OXPs but i would like to learn about it, not avoid it lol. The Staer9 shipset is the same version you are talking about, but greyed out. I tried everything, removing manually, wont work, putting it back and uninstalling from the manager wont work ...

Re: A few questions about OXPs and modding

Event driven music: You may want to check out this thread by Svengali - he has already done what you are looking for (and it is amazing by the way). Look for the Orchestral Demo oxp. Changing existing OXPs: I would guess it depends on the OXP's license. See under what terms the author(s) have relea...

A few questions about OXPs and modding

I have been taking a break recently to do other things IRL, and i had a few ideas and questions related to altering OXPs, creating new ones, and also how to make one in particular compatible with the current version of OOlite. First, i would be interested in knowing how one would go about making a n...
