Re: Split: Re-scaling experiment

is there any way to just do that by OXP instead of a major game change? i for one am ok with the current planet scale, however i do like some of the new screens from the 1.87 development version. really good looking effects. some of the best i have seen in a game. those viper trails really pop. not ...

Re: Music Thread!

synthwave yes, but not so much the soundtrack for outrun, too "japanese happy" for me. (reminds me of some of the scenes in FF7 in town). miami sound machine yes. vangelis yes. m83 yes. even some of the tracks from mass effect fit pretty well. x3 soundtrack, quite a few there are pretty epic (even t...

Re: Music Thread!

yeah, i really like those, very tangerine dream, but i also like 80s style synth stuff anyway, like the whole Drive soundtrack. One of my favorites is the 80s latino electronica. Its probably all over the place by now but Astro is a pretty good Chilean band that has a good rythm and pretty good lyri...

Re: Energy Rebalance

sounds really cool. i wonder if someone will come up with crew variables for how well the energy rebalance behaves? not having an actual crew for some ships makes it a lot harder to handle all the crew stations, so something like your energy rebalance is very welcome.

Re: Split: Re-scaling experiment

yes LOD would help. but as you mentioned it would take a major rewrite, since LOD assumes there are at least 3 or more models for each body represented depending on the distance viewed. so there would need to be a new model or set of models the game would call depending on how close one was to it. i...

Re: Split: Re-scaling experiment

well, technically from a modeling perspective, the planets can be supersized, but then it would have to have a lot more subentities to pull it off and a lot of testing to make sure the planets and stars assemble correctly. that would help alleviate some of the issues for texturing and sizes, but not...

Re: Time of Day

here in the US they give all sorts of reasons that DST is a valid argument. The most famous of them all is because the farmers need to get up earlier to plant and harvest etc, and once that is over with then we can go back to normal time. Bollocks. I grew up on a farm and the clock was not even a fa...

Re: JB WIP thread: several ships

ok from the above pics if you notice the small dark blip in front of one of the docking ports on the station proper, that is an anaconda. looks like a flea compared to the rest. put that in perspective and the destroyer is a pretty big ship in its own right. the idea is that it was a destroyer with ...

Re: JB WIP thread: several ships

ok, heres the mothball destroyer by itself and in the new updated and expanded lave academy complex in two separate pics. i think the shape fits well with both the light destroyer and the navy class carrier, since the other behemoth carriers are mostly designed to fit those lines. https://s14.postim...

Re: Modern ship yard.

im going to chime in about poly count. i try to keep larger vessels at under 5000 tris for each piece or subentity. there are a lot of tricks to get a model looking smooth that do not require a high poly count. one of those is smooth faces. a trick i use is i break the pieces off i want smooth and t...
