Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

Whew, good job! [...] Your solution is now documented here, at least (with a slight typo corrected: 'GNU' -> 'GNUstep').[...] Good catch! [...] Thank you, once again, Commander_X, for all your effort for my sake.[...] You're welcome! [...] You certainly seem to know your way around a Linux Oolite. <...

Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

I installed MX Linux in a VM (quite the struggle!), and my first launch gave me a similar message with yours, and an almost identical Latest.log file (besides the detection of graphics, and timestamps, of course). It turns that the fix is to "switch" the espeak library from the OSS/ALSA/Jack (?) ena...

Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

[...] However, I don't quite understand what you mean by "picking what's needed/expected from the installation"...? That mainly means that Oolite installation provides for libraries your system might either not have, or not have the adequate versions, and the listing confirms it (the ./oolite-deps/...

Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

Well, from the looks of it, you should be picking what's needed/expected from the installation.
Did you have the chance to check if OpenGL works on your system? E.g. what happens if you run "glxgears" (as the player user) in your terminal, do you see them munching in their window?

Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

[...] Oolite was not installed when I ran the "find" command last night, and posted the results here above.[...] Oh, at least you ran it (unnecessarily ;) ) after you installed it as the player user into your home folder. Again, no-output is good. Next thing is to check how are the libraries lining...

[...] So, I cd'ed all the way back to /, and then did the "find" thing again. [...] Whew that might had taken a while :) No, I didn't want to peek over your filesystem(s), I just wanted to know if in your home folder there was any file not own by the user that's supposed to play Oolite. No output i...

[... ] I don't know if it might be part of the problem, or useful at all, but Nvidia drivers don't work for me on Linux. I have an ASUS i7 ROG laptop with an Nvidia GTX 1050 (4GB GDDR5), but using the onboard Intel Graphics 630. [...] Whew, this looks like an "Optimus" dual graphics hardware setup....

Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

To be honest, I didn't install from the package in a long time, and I don't really know the layout of the installed application very well (I'm mostly running self compiled trunk). Did you run the installation as root, but are trying to run it as a different user, by any chance? Because it seems you ...

Re: Help Install on MX Linux, please

When you say "autopackage", is it from Oolite site download page, or is it from your Linux distribution packaging repositories?

You can also check in your $HOME/.Oolite/Logs/Latest.log to see if 1. is created and/or 2. has some more insight on what's happening.

Re: Introduce Yourself.

[...] But the queuing system seems pointless - more realistic but adds nothing to game play and you have to keep an eye on the screens to find out when you get clearance, so no chance to make a cup of tea. You can always disable it by selecting "Docking Clearance Protocol: Off" in your menu. You'll...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

I'm pretty sure that the aliens in Independence Day used some sort of shuttle inside the big saucers, but they also carried fleets of attack ships so I may have mistaken them for an internal transport system - I'm really not going to watch the bloody thing again to check! They might had, but, the c...

Although I wouldn't be able recall ( ;) ), I also couldn't find any mention of such, besides the "skybike" smuggled aboard. Sorry!
