Re: Are OXZ's an improvement ...

tinkering (for personal use) requires no repackaging/moving (unless you're reinstalling as oxz in which case might there also be a version number conflict?) Once you move an OXZ from ManagedAddons to the Addons folder, the expansion pack manager will see it and list it but it won't be able to updat...

Re: "The Adventures of Captain Morgan" Or "Damn That Mossfoo

The next chapter also brought on another dilemma. I was really beginning to push that "fine line/fence/wall" I have mentioned in the past. There is still nothing explicit . I have not jumped the wall, but I have seen it's top. And I wasn't sure it was appropriate for this wiki. After reading it ove...

Re: Are OXZ's an improvement ...

I do see what you are saying, and yes, the distribution method is the main issue I am discussing. You might even be right in saying that we only therefore need OXZs, but then what happens to the OXP format itself, and all the OXPs that will never be converted? I also still personally prefer to deve...

Re: expansion manager download fail

Yes. Fixed in 1.81 already, I think: whether or not it occurs in 1.80 may depend a bit on your gnustep version. It should be possible to fix in 1.80.1 as well. Speaking of which is there any chance of a list of bug fixes that have been resolved and are slated for inclusion in 1.80.1? (so far) - Nee...

Re: Are OXZ's an improvement ...

Code examples of each scripting command on the Wiki is my biggest hang-up. The way the syntax is listed in the wiki, I almost have to find a OXP which uses that command to give me any clue how to use it, and I've caught hell for following "bad examples". "Learned wrong" is a very hard thing to unle...

Re: Are OXZ's an improvement ...

In principle I very much agree with you, Smivs. But it would require the devs to start making rules about OXP/Zs (and be willing to enforce them), something they've never shown any inclination to do. Relying on people's goodwill won't do - you've already seen the petulant response to the simple tho...

Re: Are OXZ's an improvement ...

I disagree with Smivs on this one. I think restricting WIPs to OXP only and completely leaving them out of the expansion pack manager is the wrong way to go. Use of the WIP tag (I still have this tag on both of mine) to have them filtered out of the listing by default seems like a good idea, as long...

Re: Impossible space engine, that apparently works

http://xkcd.com/1404/ I'd kind of rolled that into option 1. You don't need a con man to make something wrong dressed up as right. Just enough people to really really want it to be so. Calling something a con implies an intention to deceive. Are you saying it's not possible to get excited over a fal...

Re: Are OXZ's an improvement ...

Here's something to think about: suppose everyone with a user login at oolite.org had a hard limit on the number of OXZs they could add to the system. Say 10. No exceptions for anyone. Would that encourage a focus on quality, rather than quantity, of OXZs available through the manager? (No, let's s...

Re: Flight Log for time in ships, galaxies and other data.

Both Flight Log and Commanders Log have a bug under Oolite 1.79 and later that if you load a game saved at a Rock Hermit (or any other station than the main station) the Log interfaces don't show up until next time you dock. This is because while this.startUp is being executed the ship is still tech...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

So what you really want to do is add a second kind of bounty to the game, So you can have a GalCop bounty, which affects your legal status, and a 3rd party bounty which doesn't affect status but will attract bounty hunters... to make things interesting as each bounty hunter is populated, they could ...

Re: "The Adventures of Captain Morgan" Or "Damn That Mossfoo

Just because I don't always have much to say doesn't mean I'm not still reading and enjoying the story. I am. I'm still eagerly looking forward to the next chapter too. :-) It's nice to get a snapshot of what life can be like station side... It's enough to make me wish it were possible to really exp...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

Yeah, why shove everything within sight of the witchspace beacon? Even the Constrictor does that, which wasn't the case in Elite -- you had to go "hunting" for it, not that it was too hard to find. That's a slightly different situation, in that the Constrictor in Elite didn't exist at a specific pl...
