Re: Oolite: misjumpier

I don't really like the traditional roll the dice and see if you misjump to witchspace. To my liking that's too binary and you really just can't do anything about it. So to the original question about acquiring skill or different outcomes I really have nothing to say. But... What I would really lik...

Re: Laser Mount Switching System (LMSS)

Very neat idea but ... 15K Credits? I can't even afford it right now (Copperhead start). It would be very useful to mount a mining laser and, you know, get easy free credits "en passant". What about a more accessible price tag (say, 1500 Cr) for 1 TC less? The big price tag only hurts beginners; for...

Re: AI and 1980s computer games

There are saddos who "play" chess online by cranking up a program and playing under its name ... I'd kinda gathered that, which is why I only play chess against my own computer. As for AIs in online games - it's probably already happening, in one form or another. Yep, and online poker sites are tak...

Re: Bling

Here's a heretic idea. What if the game had an end? *Ducks for cover*. Seriously. Constant witchspacing could age the character so that the end would come sooner or later. Unless... You have ridiculous amounts of credits and are able to go through an expensive operation that would give you more yea...

Re: Bling

Hi! Party crasher here. I've noticed that the "money sink" theme is a recurring topic. It seems there are various ongoing efforts to solve this, some involving less 'fun' stuff like increased maintenance costs. I'd like to see 'solutions' that actually add 'tangible' things to the game for the money...

Thank you very much. Damage reduction should make it.

How to remove missiles from the game?

Hello,

Is there a way to remove missiles both for player and AI ships? Or maybe reduce their damage?

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

You should rather be scared by a different pair of letters: LT - that is Limit Theory. This is the really "dangerous" one.

Re: Proposal for 1.82: combat balance changes

One of the problems with the PDF documentation is that, on Linux in particular, there's no way to ensure that a newcomer even knows the documentation exists . How we deal with that, I'm not entirely sure. Make the installer point to it. Or perhaps even simpler and more effective, offer a pdf downlo...

Re: Gamergate

Slavery is good in Oolite. It lets you play with your ethics without hurting anyone (of course it assumes that one has ethics in the first place). That's what a game is for. From what I understand from this controversy, Oolite should be immune from it because it's not a commercial game. That's why I...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

Mass-locking by ships is (of course) important because it stops us missing all the action, but also occasionally tedious because we may have to crawl past traders and the like. Don't recall this idea being posted before... Another one: the problem is that Torus drive is designed to shorten travel t...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

On the initial proposal: what about using the cockpit temperature as a limiting factor? Equipments would raise a bit this temperature, so it gets more and more dangerous to add equipments (even though one could find quite bizarre that overheating is a problem in space). On Laser range: One way to "r...

Speaking of nostalgia, The Arcadia from Captain Harlock (the green version seems quite similar in shape to Griff's Python) would kill me.

Re: (NEW RELEASE) Q-Chargerv1.2.oxp

I think throttle setting and speed are two distinct things. One can see it when disabling witchdrive injectors: there is a deceleration time during which your speed is higher than your throttle setting indicates. For instance you can adjust a similar test in the BulletDrive OXP, in order to change h...
