Re: New Jameson here, some initial feedback
Riedquat might just be the local exception that proves the anarchic rule! Not sure if you're in support of the idea or not here but to be clear from my point of view... The reasoning is less important than the effect. If the 'home systems' were to become the 'paddling pool' that disembodied suggest...

Re: Weapon Laws OXZ
Thank you1 You're welcome :) NB: It does not nobble the Vimana beam laser which comes with Gnievmir's VimanaHUD (15,000cr for a cool running military laser with slightly reduced range and seems to sell jolly well everywhere at every conceivable TL). That's why there's already a 1.89 version. This p...

Re: Popularising Oolite in Different Languages
How many of us actually read Mr. Gimlet before playing Oolite? Is reading of such 'flavour text' more or less common these days as a determinant of whether or not to try a game? IMHO cim wrote a 'blurb' - short, sweet and to the point. Disembodied wrote a preface - no less good but much less short a...

Re: Popularising Oolite in Different Languages
I can see two issues with getting a (near-?) perfect lobotomised & castrated Oolite 1.89 to a wider audience. If we assume that the goal is for Oolite to reach a wider audience then I suggest two alternate issues. User Friendliness It's free, it's fun, but 'out the box' there's not much to do. Trad...

Re: The First Amphiboly of the Architectonic of Oolite
Oolite can be very hard for beginners and perhaps a little too easy for veterans. That's a problem that appears hard to fix but it needn't be. Government used to be translateable to 'difficulty' or 'danger level' and that's still (mostly true), so why no increase the range of difficulty rather than...

Re: The First Amphiboly of the Architectonic of Oolite
Good point, unfortunately RL proofs otherwise. I had some experience in the past in countries which basically were controlled by warlords or crime syndicates. Without connections it was close to impossible to do (successfully) anything. But well, Oolite is a SF game, who knows how human nature will...

Re: The First Amphiboly of the Architectonic of Oolite
Hi Cholmondely. That article's an interesting find... An Elite Veteran's Confession Way back when, I found the original Elite both enchanting and disappointing. After playing it for hours at a time for several days I just lost interest: quite simply the effort to reward ratio was too high for my pre...

Re: BPlanets
I have some ideas about how to deal with this... I sort of cheated in Additional Planets and used real world cloud layers. I think there were 6 (or was it 8?) different layers that I used but I didn't fully exploit their potential. Suppose that I only had one cloud map, all clouds would look exactl...

Re: BPlanets
Hello. Gave this a quick try and I like it, well done :D. I think it makes sense that most of the worlds are earthlike (given the prevalence of earthlike inhabitants). One thing that I think is missing however (and I mention it because I believe you have the ability to churn out textures relatively ...

Re: Split: Re-scaling experiment
Can't say I'm familiar with all of those oxps but nothing jumps out at me as problematic. Re Lane width... It has been adjusted to mathematically match both the new scanner and the longer space lane, so it should be correct. If however, you want to increase encounters then you'll need to reduce lane...

Re: Atacked in the Aegis
I've experienced this a few times before. It's always been with a source code tweaked build so I thought it may have been some mistake I was making at the time. Warning sound and condition red as soon as you launch, vipers attacking despite clean status. Each instance has been widely spread in terms...
