Continuing the cargo bay expansion thread....

Well, judging by the responses of my most learned colleagues so far, the cargo bay expansion should stay. If we do keep it, perhaps we modify the mechanic of cargo bay expansion for a more realistic model? After all, rebuilding a hull of a ship shouldn't give you a 75% space increase. It's kind like...

I've been thinking about this whole issue of the cargo bay expansion. Do we really need it? After all, the only reason it exist is to make the Cobra mk 3 a bit better trader. It more of a kludge since you were stuck with the cm3 for the your career in Elites 8 & 16 bits games. Since we can change sh...

Wouldn't expanded cargo bays only show up on smaller vessels? I always thought with the Cobra 3 that it's size was partly due to inefficient but more affordable use of it's internal space, a bit like when you have your loft converted and you pay for the specialised structure enforcement. Its not so...

Can anybody tell me while we're at it where exactly does the Cargo Bay extension go? Is it internal, external or a combo of the two? The cargo bay extension is internal - IIRC: it involves cutting girders etc. Allow me to disagree on grounds of what it actually says on the tin .... Hull extensions ...

Re: Oversized Cobra mk 3

As for seeing the model of the ill-fated Cobra Mk 2, yes please. After doing the manual I am planning to try my hand a writing a mission set featuring Uncle Bob Second Hand Shipyard. Some of the mission involve the recovery of the only functional Cobra Mk 2 in existence which may or may not legally...

Spotted a fix need in the sheet.

I just spotted that you don't have Shift Z for the Scanner Zoom Reset in the key listing. Are the old Elite A ships like Naga going to standard with the next release? If not, is it wise to have them listed in the sheet? It could confuse a new comer to have ships listed that are not part of the defau...

Here is the terminology aggreed on so far...

Just an update on the manual project. Here are the terms so far that will be standardised through out the book The Galactic Cooperative of Worlds is officially abbreviated to GCW but commonly called GalCop. The military of the GCW is the Galatic Navy or Navy for short. The police network is the GCW ...

Re: Oversized Cobra mk 3

First may I say that the revamped cb3 you have made would do B&B proud. To me, it looks like the model was designed to just-fit inside the docking slit - making that chore a bit more of a challenge. The dimensions are exactly double the cm1 and cargo also exactly double - which suggests to me that t...

Re: All ships have self aiming lasers, to a point

If the beams are fixed to travel parallel to the Krait's z-axis. Wrong. Exactly that does happen. Suit yourself in a Merlin and find out! Multi-Laser ships will not be able to hit you anymore. As for the original thread, I currently consider the Wolf mk II pretty choice. ...which has multiple laser...

A word from the people in the cheap seats.

I love the new designs Simon B. I noticed the shift towards a more 'lumpy' and 'organic' looks that E:F and E:FFE were trying to invoke with their newer ships. Were you trying to invoke that in your designs? One thought though. I, and no doubt a lot of other people, run Oolite on fairly low spec' sy...

All ships have self aiming lasers, to a point

Just throwing in my 0.2 credits here, but several Oolite (Elite) ships have lasers that are self aiming to a degree. Take the example of the Krait, which mounts twin lasers at the 'wing tips' (quoting the E:FFE2 manual.) Given that it's wing span of 90ft (quoting original manual measuments). Assumin...

Following up the input

Thank's for all the input. :) With regard to "witchspace/hyperspace": witchspace is used within the game itself.... one of the first in-flight messages a player will receive. I think that "hyperspace" is the drier and more technical term, and "witchspace" is more poetic and more likely to be spacer ...

Another Errent Thought

Just after making my last post, I was struck by this important fact... there is a problem with consistency in the terminology of Elite and it's descendants. If I'm going to create this manual, I would like to use consistency terms and abbreviation. Case in point, 'witchspace / hyperspace.' Unfortuna...

Here is what I am thinking

Firstly may I say thank you for the warm welcome to the community. My thoughts are for a 'classic' game manual, very much in the style of the original version that came with the BBC. There is no way that it could replace the wiki, but instead get the all important new-comers up to speed. We have to ...

Doing an actual Oolite Manual

Greetings commanders I've been enjoying Oolite for the last 6 months and figured that I too should contribute to the project. I've noticed that the documentation included file is out of date, and most important information is on the wiki. Is any one currently working on an actual manual for the game...
