Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

I must confess I like the 'must use eyes' feature... :)

Sometimes it can be a stretch, but the feeling of achievement I get every time I actually use my eyes is well worth the effort!

Re: New guy.

Oolite was in feature freeze between 1.75 and 1.76.
As a matter of fact, 1.75.3 was the beta version of 1.76, and quite a few bugs still present in 1.75.3 got squished in 1.76 though, of course, there's always going to be left over bugs... :)

Look into my eyes, not around my eyes, get 1.76! :D

Re: Scripting requests

About arbitrary galaxy jumps, it's been vetoed before, because it would make what's supposed to be exceptional & a one way ticket to the unknown something a lot more commonplace, and - well - mundane, which would incidentally remove the rationale for starting with a clean slate after a galaxy jump. ...

Haven't touched the noise generator yet, just working towards getting the other wrinkles (like the Mysterious White Balls) ironed out at the moment! :D

Re: About planets

Postponing the lightmapping bit in favour of more atmosphere texturing stuff! Lightmaps will come though! :)

Re: About planets

I haven't got round to see what happens there yet, but chances are that whenever you assign a texture the atmosphere is recreated as a white blanket covering the perfectly rendered texture underneath...

Re: About planets

In the end I slightly modified what was there already, and lo, we have (basic, yet quite effective) twilight! Next step, night lights!

PS: Submersible, is there any equivalent function that doesn't use exponents? Those are indeed very expensive computations...

Re: About planets

Great minds think alike! :) I was following a new, improved landing shuttle when I found myself on the dark side of the planet, surrounded by full daylight sky... it just didn't seem right! :) I'm playing with adding some more math, though... at the moment there's still no twilight, which should hap...

Re: Planetary Texture Problems

beagle, strigi or meta tracker. Meta tracker (aka tracker) is the one that's been updated most recently, but I dimly remember hearing good things about strigi a couple of years ago... No matter what linux system you have, at least one of these three will be available to dowload. Each one gives you ...

Re: [WIP] Criminal Record OXP version 0.0001, please test

Dots & brackets are equivalent to each other. something.boo is equivalent to something['boo'] (and/or something["boo"] ) In most cases it's mostly a matter of personal preference which one to use. However brackets usage is perfect for when you have a list of (possible) properties saved away as strin...

Re: Planetary Texture Problems

Ok, last attempt: have you god a text editor like Kate installed? It should have an option to look through all files inside a directory for a specific string. You could use that to find where them strings are. Mind you, I seem to remember that nautilus had a text search hidden in there somewhere... ...

Re: Progress

However, for me it's not so much the contrast as such, but the sharp edge between the sunlit and the dark half that doesn't please the eye and looks unreal. There should be an area of transition, a more gentle dawn or dusk on the planet. Well, we're still working towards something a bit more like t...
