Frontier with more Elite like 'physics' (at least for combat) and the OXPs would be really nice. Yeah... I know there are fans of the Newtonian flight model but for me, Frontier was killed by the absense of dogfighting. Just setting the autopilot, firing, breaking off, repeat... no fun. I'd like to...

I found out about Oolite via Channel 4's "GameCentral" Teletext pages: someone mentioned it on their letters page a while back, along with the fact that it ran on a Mac.

I had a good experience last night involving long-range shooting. It was a great demonstration of just how complex and interdependent the Oolite world can be. I was tootling along, in towards the station, when I was mass-locked by an Anaconda. I sat back and waited to overhaul it, but noticed that i...

Hmm... I think Magma's probably referring to the accuracy of the lasers, not the accuracy of Oolite as an emulation of Elite, or as a space simulator! At least that's my reading. Probably an issue connected to the slowness/low frame-rate of the game on Magma's laptop. Magma: if you've got a lot of O...

...and get your overhaul done at the highest-tech planet you can! TL14 or 15 for preference -- that way you can be sure that the technicians are fully qualified to maintain ALL your gear. And the complimentary coffee is usually a lot better.

Hey, what are you complaining about? Have you read my signature? 8) Yeah, but... graveyards, Commander? Actually, I wonder -- in the spirit of unleashing gigantic, titanic explosions -- what might happen if someone poops out a Q-mine in range of one of the proposed racetracks... that could be prett...

Bugger! I was going to do an ad with a penguin in it. I haven't done any bird ads yet and TGHC's comment about penguin suits made me realise how usefully humanoid they are... and there's the Doc rattling out a good 'un with a penguin in a flying helmet, no less. Oh well, I suppose I can do one with ...

@ Disembodied (and Svengali): Only recently (read: right now) I had a look at the wiki pages about GalCop and the different government types , which is part of the Powers and Organisations page. The information found there support my view. I could have referred to them earlier, but I simply hadn't ...

Hi Magma, welcome to the boards! I'm not sure if I can be of much help (actually, that's not true: I'm positive that I can't be of much help  ) but you might find some clues here . It does trail off a bit into general bad-mouthing of Vista but there might be something of use: see the first pos...

Hi FSOneblin, welcome to the boards! You get to another galaxy (actually, another region of the same galaxy, but that's beside the point) by purchasing and using a Galactic Hyperdrive , a one-shot device which will propel you to the next sector up. It doesn't use any fuel (all the fuel is contained ...

I think that makes sense... the various worlds themselves must make some sort of contribution to GalCop/Co-op, though. The more organised and economically successful the system, the more Viper patrols they can afford to fund and/or demand: hence the heavy police presence in Corporate States and Demo...

Also, try to get your ship serviced at a high-tech planet. The engineers can only repair what they're qualified to repair. If you've got, say, docking computers (TL9) and get your ship overhauled at somewhere TL8 or lower, the next time you visit a TL9 or above world, you'll find there's still a mai...

Just a small point in your line of thought: Maybe GalCo-op (as opposed to GalCop) I don't get you here. In all the literature and references we have these two terms are used interchangebly for the Galactic Co-Operative of Worlds (full title). I guess it's just an abbreviational confusion that some ...
