Re: A new kind of laser

Changing the way lasers work is a pain, and that noone wants to do it. I am pretty sure there is no way to do it in JS because I dont think the lasers can be changed at all. I also do not really see a benefit. This might be a feature that is popular (not sure) but I dont really see what it brings to...

Re: A Humble Question. ... and maybe another.

The economics of downgrading are pretty bad. I think it costs a minimum of 25% loss on the value of the ship, and you normally end up in a turkey.

Re: Oolite Multiplayer? Please read

This is not simply a matter of laziness. The game was never intended to be multi player, there are many many things that need to be worked around, and there are no members of the development team who think it is a good idea. In fact it is quite clear to everyone who has ever looked into the code tha...

Re: Oolite Multiplayer? Please read

There is no plan for this to happen, and it is extremely unlikely that there will be an oolite 2 which supports multiplayer.

Honestly, this is a dead subject, it is not going to happen.

Good work. I think you are right.

Unfortunately I never got around to sorting out my git access properly, maybe someone else can commit your change?

Re: LinkedIn - Advertsing

There is a database of people, their education, work history and recomendations (short references). The main revenue stream is paid for membership which provides the ability to contact users that you like the details of, but do not know. This is so clearly a recruitment site. It is also used extensi...

Re: Anonmyzing Google Searches

But who are you hiding from? The 3 letter agencies or advertisers? The government can talk to your isp, and even if you do everything over https (which you dont), things like dns tell enough of the story. Scroogle wont hide you from the men in black for sure. Anyone who thinks an anonymised search h...

Re: LinkedIn - Advertsing

Sorry, that wasnt a very helpful message from me. I meant that the business model of linked in is to collect an online cv, work history qualifications etc and then sell premium access to that information to recruiters. It does many things well, but at its heart it is about recruitment in the same wa...

They are all at it, remember http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook_Beacon remember phorm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phorm :)

I dont like what LinkedIn did, but to be honest, it is exactly how they make their money, so expect more of the same from all these guys in the future.

Re: I want my own asteroid

The thing is, most of the work has to be done in oolite anyway. There is no way to change ships properly using an OXP this would all have to be changed, shipyards have to be rewritten. Ways to change the cost of ships but not the value (so we dont mess up maintenance costs and resale for example). W...

Re: LinkedIn - Advertsing

Dont take this the wrong way, but thats pretty much the business model of social networking. Anyone who uses Xing, LinkedIn, Facebook, google etc is selling their privacy for the "free" service. I use all of them, so dont think Im a tin foil hat wearing loony, but I hope we all understand that on a ...

Re: I want my own asteroid

This is all effort in the wrong direction. For this to work properly, rather than implementing all of the "missing" writable fields, it would be much more sensible to separate the player and ship (which ought to be finished anyway) and then provide a changeShip operation.

What did it ever do to me? Nothing, it is every bit as excellent and needed as the SarcMark :p

Like Mötley Crüe using umlauts in their name. Instant cööl, huh‽
