I don't know what's wrong with the server at the moment, it responds to ping but otherwise doesn't function, a call is in with the datacentre to take a look at it again.

Yes, the server is unreachable at the moment. I have informed the datacentre, but it'll be tomorrow before I find out more, I'm not waiting up for them :-)

I do keep backups, so if the server has died it's not the end of the world.

Re: Would a linux config script help with builds?

How does autopackage fair with heavily managed distros like Ubuntu? Absolutely perfectly. Autopackage is designed to co-exist and not interfere with the system packager. However, since Ubuntu is the most popular desktop distribution, really there ought to be the scripts et al. to create .deb files ...

Re: Would a linux config script help with builds?

5. make install That bit should really be done by running the autopackage (so run makeinstaller, then run the resulting oolite-x.xx.package file). The advantage of using the autopackage is that it gets the game added to the Games menu and makes an uninstaller, too. The autopackage is the normal met...

The autopackage has been rebuilt and reuploaded since the problem was reported to me, apologies for the delay in getting it out (please PM me if the autopackage appears to be borked (since that'll send me an email too), I've not had much time recently to read the BBS). I'll hold my hands up and say ...

Update. Due to a build problem on my build machine, bad data went out with the last package and some users have reported problems with missions etc. A new 1.71.2 package has been uploaded. If you already have 1.71.2, I suggest using the rsync method to update rather than downloading a whole new pack...

Update. There's now a new point release for bug fixes - 1.71.2. You can get it from the usual places (as detailed above) - the new ftp URL is: ftp://ftp.alioth.net/oolite/oolite-1.71.2.x86.package Rsync URL hasn't changed. Keep an eye out on the Oolite-Mac section for the change log from Ahruman - I...

What happens if you type: glxinfo in a shell window? It really does sound like you're software rendering the image. I have here an old Hewlett-Paqard desktop machine (i.e. Compaq inherited - the machine's probably at least 5 years old) with Intel 845G graphics, i.e. the crummiest of crummy integrate...

If you're volunteering to be the maintainer for the amd64 build, hopefully once you have a working build environment, there shouldn't be an awful lot to do; mainly uploading it to BerliOS and making it available for rsync updates. (If you have a machine available that can do nightly builds, even bet...

If it wasn't for a frankly heroic dose of Dr Sigmund Schmigmund's Mental Fixative -- available at all good convenience stores throughout the eight galaxies -- I doubt if I could have completed the job sane. But... doesn't it also work as a laxative? How could you do this precise piloting whilst rus...

New signups re-enabled in the wiki

Thanks to a tip from Ahruman about reCAPTCHA, I now have seen a captcha system that I find acceptable. So I've re-enabled new signups (i.e. you don't have to PM me any more) on wiki.alioth.net . Hopefully, it'll keep spammers out but let legitimate people create new accounts. PM me if there's any pr...
