Funnily enough - talking of Commodore, I was in Sheffield a week and a half ago (for Retro Reunited at Sheffield Hallam Uni students union) and picked up my first ever Commodore - an Amiga 1200. I was never interested in the C64, but I always wanted (but never got) an Amiga. If you want to see what ...

Wiki has returned

Hi all, There's a new server installed and the wiki has been restored from the most recent backup (which was in the small hours the day the old box died for good; last update April 5th). There may be the odd permissions problem due to the UIDs not quite matching up with the old box, if you find any,...

Vintage Computing Festival UK

Just to let you all know... The UK's first Vintage Computing Festival will be at Bletchley Park this year. It takes place on the 19th/20th June. The wiki server is in a datacentre in London, not at home.

The new box was held up by the recent spot of bother with the rumblings in Iceland, but I'm told it has arrived now and is being assembled and tested. Hopefully not too long now.

Update:

The hardware is "beyond economic repair", a new machine is on order - with luck it won't be long before it's in the rack, but it will mean unfortunately a full restore of everything (again :/)

Thanks for your patience!

The whole machine now has died, probably for good. It'll either be a new machine (which means a restore from the 05-Apr snapshot) or a repair to the existing one, or possibly a new machine with the old disc. Someone has to actually go to the datacentre and look in the rack though. The other complica...

Wiki software upgrade

The wiki got upgraded to 1.15 just now.

However, the upgrade was about as smooth as a ship being launched down a ramp lubricated with boulders. There may be things that got broken.

Send me a PM if you find anything that's stuffed, and I'll try and fix them.

Sigh. OK, I've disabled new user registration for now, people can PM me on this bulletin board to request user names (the BB sends me an email when I get a PM). I think a better way of checking for spam edits would be to pass the message through SpamAssassin. It does *spectacularly* well with email ...

The wiki is on the new hardware; DNS should take an hour or less to update at the longest (you'll know you have the proper one if you can edit pages, and it runs faster :-) )

OK, I have some nice shiny new hardware to run it on. I'm travelling today, but it may be that I can still get it up and running while sitting in airports waiting for planes. But if not, it won't be more than a couple of days (hopefully). Unfortunately, the brief time it was back on its old proper b...

***GRRR***

Dammit.

It seems like the hardware is STILL flaky, and it's gone down again. I'm travelling at the moment so it will have to just stay down until I get a chance to transfer it back to the old UltraSPARC while the proper box is sorted out *again*.

OK - the new server is up and running, and the wiki is back in its proper place; editing is re-enabled and it should be a damned sight faster now. It may take an hour or two before your ISPs DNS catches up (the time-to-live on the record is only 1 hour, but some ISPs seem to have DNS servers that do...
