A question for Elite 1984 experts

Someone wrote "I'm going to check Oresrati next - as that was a system in chart 8 that was dubbed 'the restaurant at the end of the universe' because you could galactic hyperspace into it, but you couldn't get out again because it was more than 7 light-years to the nearest star and the tech level wa...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and the return

I would really have preferred if they continued to build on the mystery and let the story they started develop itself "Story develop itself" isn't possible in Elite Dangerous. The game isn't a server-based virtual world or MMO like e.g. EVE Online. It's client based with a small play area having mo...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and ship naming

Cody wrote:I'm told that after nigh on four years, I still cannot name my ship - is that true?
You can add a ship name visible to only you, provided you pay Frontier an additional 50% of the price of the game.

Will that do? :-)

as you explore there are ships flying overhead, life pods and crashed ships. seems to me there is a lot of activity for an "undiscovered planet" . Looks set to become a core trope of the new Content-lacking Procedurally Generated Space Exploration Game genre. Credit for inventing it goes to Elite D...

Re: Frontier Developments plc Full year trading update

RockDoctor, Steam is the world's largest web store for downloadable games. 20-40 players at a time is the figure for the Elite Dangerous Arena game, the cut-down version recently given away free, whereas 3000-4000 is the figure for the Elite Dangerous main game, paid-for.

Re: Frontier Developments plc Full year trading update

if there are financials that require worrying about "share prices", then drumming up publicity is probably not accidental. Distinct audiences, I think. The drumming here is probably more to counter the publicity generated by Frontier's increasing misfortune with the product itself, e.g. Frontier ca...

Frontier Developments plc Full year trading update

Sales down, cash down, net loss hugely up.

OTOH, there's enough money to run the ED server for a while longer :-)

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and ships with no names

And I guess that'll be from the same department that thought it fine last week to break the promise that everything in-game would be purchasable with in-game credits To which add the Frontier store is now _advertising Cobra, Viper and Anaconda 3D scale models for sale_ ... presumably hoping for tot...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and ships with no names

passenger gameplay is coming as part of the next major content update to Elite Dangerous: Horizons. I guess that would be the passenger gameplay advertised as in the game due to backers over two years ago, but not delivered then or since. And I guess Frontier will have some explanation ready as to ...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - and ships with no names

Who knows, they might be gathering the big ones -- ship naming, multiple pilots per account, <put your favorite one> -- for an anniversary release of some sorts... 10th anniversary? :) I see Frontier just scratched all the release dates for the current "season" http://web.archive.org/web/2016060915...

Re: Elite: Dangerous - so near, and yet so far!

This game goes out of its way to make learning the game just as difficult as possible. I didn't see that review... because it wasn't there. https://archive.is/RohYP . Regardless, I think you'd accept that's one of very few, not "many". this guy has 1.0 hrs of play? He could have 1000's. As another ...
