Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Another thing I find highly frustrating: You need to make money to build up your ship, but literally all of the contracts that would help you do that are off limits to you (at least without OXPs which is basically cheating, and if you're going to do that, you might as well just edit the save file a...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Something amusing from yesterday's session (because this discussion has got me playing again...). I'd just jumped into a system and a pack of "Clean" ships hanging around the Witchpoint all turned red while one of them made a threatening remark. I lit one up, happy to see there were Vipers nearby; w...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Do you have Scanner Targeting Enhancement installed? That's a core piece of equipment and should help with not losing your target when things get hot. Not sure about your fighting style, but there is a video here , where I go against 12 pirates in an iron ass. Custom shields OXP is in use in the vi...

Re: Cut-Price and Free SF

Okay, I'll toss something into the ring in that case. People who want to know how Claymore Mine finished can follow the link in my sig. Only valid for five days though, that's all KDP will let me do. (starts Sunday 22nd) (I mean, the full text of Sidewinder Precision Pro is on this very website, not...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

The Isinor-Ensoreus route would be a relatively mild milk run, allowing players the chance to build up their ship and get a bit of experience under their belts. It was a peach of a route in Elite but you won't have much fuel left for your injectors (if you have any). Yes, but - with minimal piracy ...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

I read this thread with interest because it reminded me of a similar complaint I made a while ago. I just fired up an old campaign of mine for old time's sake, I reviewed the objectives I had (just starting another pass across the galaxy with five passengers and a parcel to drop off), I made the fir...

Re: Fastest way to buy a Boa/Boa CC?

Oh, the Cobby's got the turn performance, but I don't. I can keep from being hit in a furball, but I can't acquire a target and burn it quickly enough -- or at any rate, not reliably enough to be sure of putting a whole gaggle of bad guys to sleep in a reasonable time, and after what seems like half...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Hadaul. Played on Dar Sai, The Face by Jack Vance. Kind of a king-of-the-ring brawl on a field made of concentric circles, with temporary alliances with other players, duplicity, and as much dirty unarmed combat as you like even if actually killing opponents is frowned upon.

Re: Fastest way to buy a Boa/Boa CC?

The trouble I found with trying to earn enough credits to buy a Boa CC -- a ship I flew and enjoyed in a previous version of this game, and it must have been about six years ago because it inspired the "Captain Hammond" stories -- is that running passengers and parcels attracts pirates and assassins...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Then it's "Death". First appearance in Mort. *cough* The Colour Of Magic *cough* Have you actually checked that in the book? Information is not consistent in various sites. :? I was reading Pratchett before it was cool. Heard about Discworld (via a White Dwarf article) just after The Light Fa...

Nominated William Herschel, not least since he was the first person since antiquity to discover a new planet and hence open the possibility of still others to be discovered.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

That's the one. "Reviewer's comments" include not only excoriating it as "rhodomontade and piffle", as quoted, but threats to horsewhip the Baron on the steps of his club. You're next! (To pose a question, that is. Not for a horsewhipping.)

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

There's really only one SF author who could use a word like "rhodomontade" and get away with it … alas I'm currently away from my books and I don't want to have to resort to Google to check the details! The actual book series is five books long, and the imaginary book series has a one-word title (a...
